Promoting Access to Justice, Peaceful Dispute Resolution and Stronger Communities

BANGKOK, THAILAND — A.S.A.P. Law is pleased to highlight the recent volunteer legal outreach undertaken by Khun Amnatnarongdet (Bobby) Kuntawong, Managing Attorney of A.S.A.P. Law, in Phu Wiang District, Khon Kaen Province.

The outreach was conducted in his capacity as a Volunteer Lawyer, with the objective of meeting directly with members of the community, listening to their concerns, understanding the facts surrounding their disputes, and providing practical legal guidance.

During the visit, residents raised a number of concerns affecting their community, including:

The operation of Village Savings Groups in Villages 3–4
Savings and financial matters
Other disputes requiring legal guidance and potential resolution

Rather than approaching these matters solely from a litigation perspective, the outreach focused first on understanding the underlying facts and hearing the concerns of those directly involved.

This included receiving complaints, reviewing relevant information and documents, studying the circumstances of each matter, and explaining the legal rights and responsibilities of the parties involved.

From Facts to Solutions

The approach adopted during the outreach followed a practical three-stage process.

First, establish the facts.Understanding what actually happened is essential before determining the appropriate legal response. Residents were given the opportunity to explain their circumstances and concerns directly.

Second, seek resolution and practical solutions.Where appropriate, parties were encouraged to resolve disputes through communication, negotiation and peaceful mediation. The objective is not simply to determine who is right or wrong, but to identify solutions that are fair, workable and capable of reducing further conflict.

Third, access the justice system when necessary.Where an acceptable resolution cannot be reached through negotiation or mediation, residents were provided with guidance concerning the appropriate legal procedures available to protect their rights and interests.

Law as a Tool for Justice — Not Conflict

For Khun Amnatnarongdet, the role of a volunteer lawyer extends beyond providing legal advice.
